Experience the holiday season in two unique cities. Divided not just by the Irish Sea, but by a long history of conquest and rebellion, as well as settlement and cultural intermarriage, each city tells its own distinct story. Both are long time seats of government, arts and business in their own countries with ties stretching out across the world. Includes several class-specific activities plus day trips (one in England and one in Ireland) to such locations as Bath, Canterbury & Dover, Stonehenge & Salisbury, and Stratford & Warwick in England,; and Glendalough & Powerscourt House in Ireland. Program participants reside in local hotels.

The best way to learn Consumer Behavior is to live it. Come explore London and Dublin to discover how lifestyles differ as we visit two of the United Kingdom’s largest cities. This class will focus on how culture differs in the US compared to the UK. Specifically, we’ll look at differences in language, retail, media, and lifestyles. Topics will include consumer buying patterns, internal and external influences, perception, value, and the decision-making process. We’ll convert dollars to pounds and Euros—and keep a consumption journal of our behavior during the class. Students will be asked to specifically journal distinctions between three locations: home, London, and Dublin and to either write or video their perceptions of the distinct cultural differences between the three.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Marketing or equivalent.
In this applied ethics course, we'll investigate questions such as: Universal health care—who has it, who doesn't, and why? Should doctors always tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth? Do patients across the world have the same needs for autonomy, confidentiality, and informed consent? Is Ebola a worldwide bioethics concern? Should research standards be the same across countries? By visiting museums and health care facilities, and experiencing the multiculturalism of London and Dublin, we'll prepare ourselves for philosophical explorations of cloning, euthanasia, human experimentation, stem cell research, and other thought-provoking topics.
Use photography to share a new view of the world. Learn technical and aesthetic skills of photography while exploring London and Dublin. Through field trips, walking excursions, and creative assignments, students will incorporate both photography and social media to visually document their experience. Students will construct a portfolio, a creative blog, and utilize social media as platform for sharing their work. During this program, students will learn about the historical and contemporary culture of these two cities and how it informs visual arts. Students will also visit famous grave sites, world renowned art museums, and galleries.
This study abroad travel class will focus on experiential learning as students explore the state of social services ranging from childcare, families, individuals and aging systems in London and Dublin. Students will visit historical sites, museums, and social service organizations, including health care institutions, in both cities where they will have the opportunity to interact with providers from a variety of social services and local consumers of services. Students will also explore services to vulnerable, at risk populations while learning about historical events and leaders that assisted in shaping the current disciplines found in the U.S.
